Sean Kline serves as President and CEO of the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA), bringing more than 25 years of maritime operations and policy expertise to advocate for U.S. ship owners, operators, and charterers on critical industry issues. With over a decade of service at CSA, Sean previously spent seven years on the organization’s Board of Directors before joining the staff.
Sean began his career at sea as a deck officer aboard a variety of commercial vessels and with the Military Sealift Command, supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Ashore, he held leadership roles including Director of Marine Safety and Standards at Maersk Line, Limited; Manager of Security and Audits at the Liberian Registry; and Regulatory Development Manager with the U.S. Coast Guard.
A graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Sean has been appointed by the Secretary of Homeland Security to the National Maritime Security Advisory Committee and the National Navigation Safety Advisory Committee. He has also served on the U.S. State Department’s Maritime Security Advisory Committee. His contributions extend to research and policy development efforts with the Government Accountability Office, the Transportation Research Board, and the National Academies of Sciences, in addition to active involvement in maritime cybersecurity working groups.
