Szu Yu ChenStudent Graduate Program at SUNY MaritimeSpeaker
Profile
My name is Szu-Yu (Charlotte) Chen, and I was born and raised in Taichung, Taiwan. My life has been shaped by a strong sense of curiosity and a passion for cross-cultural experiences. I believe that learning is not limited to textbooks—it can be found everywhere in life. This belief has guided and inspired me throughout my life.
I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Finance from National Chi Nan University and completed my studies ahead of schedule. During my university years, I actively participated in a variety of campus activities. These experiences greatly enhanced my communication skills and fostered a strong sense of teamwork.
After graduation, I spent three years exploring the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, I eventually realized that my true interest still lies in global trade and the maritime industry. As a result, I enrolled in a dual-degree master’s program between National Taiwan Ocean University and SUNY Maritime College, majoring in Shipping and Logistics.
Since arriving at SUNY Maritime, I have made a strong effort to immerse myself in American academic life and culture. Recently, I took part in the 2025 CMA Education Foundation & Connecticut Maritime Association Business of Shipping Research Competition and was honored to receive Second Prize. This valuable experience strengthened my determination to apply academic knowledge to real-world industry challenges.
I firmly believe in staying curious, learning deeply, and embracing change with courage. From Taiwan to New York, from Finance to Shipping, each stage of my life has helped shape who I am today—and has made me even more excited about my future in the global shipping industry.
