Michael is a partner in the global law firm, HFW. He has over 20 years' post-qualification experience and works with clients to resolve problems during the lifetime of projects as well as acting on formal disputes; i.e. arbitration etc. He mainly works on international infrastructure, transport and energy projects, with experience across the Americas, Africa, Middle East and South East Asia.
Michael is the author of Construction Contract Variations, the only specialist legal text on changes to the scope of work, described in reviews as "a master guide" (Doug Jones, International Construction law Review) and "an indispensable classic" (Simon Rainey QC, Law Society Gazette).
Michael is recommended by the independent directories that review the legal market. He is described as "technically skilled, extremely thorough and hard-working" (Chambers & Partners 2017), "good at understanding complex issues and finding pragmatic solutions" (Legal 500, 2017), “a clear thinker who gives his honest assessment of the problem and the likely outcome" (Chambers & Partners, 2019).
Michael teaches on the Stuttgart University Construction Law Masters. He is a member of the Consultation Board for the Thomson Reuters legal resources website Practical Law, and was on the panel of friendly reviewers for the FIDIC second edition suite.
