Nicholas Brown is a multi-jurisdictional lawyer, commercial arbitrator, and FIDIC-President’s List adjudicator with around 30 years of experience in the resolution and avoidance of complex disputes across the infrastructure and energy sectors. As a Partner in Pinsent Masons’ Construction Advisory & Disputes team, Nicholas brings a calm, strategic presence to high-stakes matters spanning the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Europe/UK.
He is widely recognised for his ability to distil complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice, and is frequently appointed as counsel, arbitrator, or adjudicator in international commercial arbitrations. His sector expertise includes renewables, conventional energy, oil & gas, transportation, and mining, with a strong track record in major capital works, PPPs, and public infrastructure.
Nicholas is the author of the legal text FIDIC 2017: A Definitive Guide to Claims and Disputes (now in its second edition), the first comprehensive guide to the multi-tiered dispute avoidance and resolution process under the 2017 FIDIC suite of contracts. The book is widely used by engineers, contractors, consultants, and legal professionals as a practical reference for navigating complex international construction disputes.
He is also a thought leader in construction law and international arbitration, contributing regularly to legal publications and serving as a visiting practitioner at King’s College London. Nicholas holds fellowships with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, and is a founding member of the ICC Singapore Arbitration Group, and a member of the Arbitration and ADR Committee of the ICC (UK).
