Matthias studied Theology in Hamburg and Berlin and was volunteer at the Ecumenical Bible Study Center, Bahia, Brazil from 1996-1998. He subsequently was Pastor in Communities in Northern Germany and Brazil. Since 2013 Regional Port Chaplain of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany.
