Ian Rumens leads the Private Client Service Line in Jersey. With extensive international experience in both the legal and fiduciary fields, Ian specializes in advising individuals, families, and family offices to achieve their strategic objectives. Drawing on his senior board position experiences, Ian applies a commercial and pragmatic solution-based approach to fulfilling client needs. He is particularly focused on clients from the Gulf Cooperation Council and Europe, serving as trustee and board member on many international family’s structures. His expertise extends to sophisticated, cross-jurisdictional structuring, corporate governance, and acting as a professional trustee and director.

Ian is frequently acknowledged in industry rankings as a leading individual in his field and is recognized for his contributions as a writer of pertinent industry articles and a commentator on industry trends.


Recent work over the last 18 months includes:

  • Dynastic Structure Implementation: Ian worked with a prominent GCC family and their advisors on the restructure and implementation of a dynastic structure for both the family’s personal and commercial wealth, valued in the billions. The ongoing administration of the structure now heavily involves second-generation family members, many of whom have built their own successful careers and hold strong views on the future direction of the family businesses, which have a global nexus.
  • Middle East Family Office: Ian partnered with a family office in the region to establish a structure holding a diverse portfolio of assets, including private company shares, commercial and residential real estate, and financial investments, including digital assets.
  • Collaborative Structuring: Ian collaborated with a client and their team of advisors to structure their affairs in a manner that achieves the desired family goals without compromising the ability to generate wealth. The investment strategy involved a blend of traditional structures and the creative use of alternative investment vehicles commonly utilized in the institutional world.

Ian was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2002 (non-practicing) and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
