Jennifer AshRadioactive Waste Advisor at EDF EnergySpeaker
Profile
Jenny Ash is Lead in Radioactive Discharges and Impacts at EDF Energy within Generation Environment Management. Jenny has recently commenced this role after taking time out on maternity leave. Prior to this Jenny worked at Sizewell B Power Station for approximately ten years where she was Radioactive Waste Advisor and Accredited Health Physicist. This role involved giving advice to station particularly on radioactive liquid and aqueous discharges as well as the Environmental Monitoring Programme. Jenny’s new role mainly focusses on dose assessments to members of the public from the EDF Energy Nuclear Fleet as well as providing input into projects such as the Guidance for Release of Nuclear Sites from Radioactive Substances Regulation (“GRR”).
Jenny’s degree was in Marine Science, obtained at the University of Southampton, and her Masters was in Global Environmental Change obtained at the University of Plymouth. Studying both these subject areas made Jenny realise the significant role that a low carbon emitter, such as nuclear energy, has to play in reducing the impact of climate change. This was the reason for her transition into the nuclear sector.
