Profile

Liv Thompson is the Director of Strategic Capability at NIRO and a senior advisor to the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

NIRO provides independent, strategic and technical advice to UK Government on all matters concerning nuclear power, energy security, medical isotopes and fusion.

In her role at NIRO, Liv leads work on the skills, infrastructure and policy requirements needed to deliver the Government’s nuclear aspirations. She also provides strategic advice and guidance on future nuclear programme delivery, technology developments and innovations.

Liv is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Professional Development (CIPD) and the Nuclear Institute as well as being a Chartered Scientist. She helped to found Women in Nuclear, serving on the first Executive Board. She is a strategic advisor and advocate of Racial Equality in Nuclear and is the Co-Chair and Trustee of the Primary Science Teaching Trust, which aims to improve science and maths teaching across UK primary education.
