Digital Signalling Interoperability

Understand Popular Technologies for Modern Digital Signalling, Their Commonalities and Differences, and How to Address Interoperability Challenges

Digital Signalling Interoperability

Course Overview

Digital Signalling, also known as Automatic Train Control, is a critical enable for improved railway capacity and performance. However, different technologies, products and applications may create a ‘digital gauge break’ that prevents interoperability.

Using Australia as a transferable example, this training compares the common mainstream technologies for digital signalling, including Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and the European Train Control System (ETCS). Interoperability of digital signalling is defined and thoroughly discussed, and strategies for controlling and achieving interoperability in various scenarios are provided.

Who Should Participate

This training is well suitable for railway practitioners of all disciplines, regardless of their prior signalling knowledge. It can be consumed as standalone course focused on interoperability, or as supplementary addition toother trainings by the Informa Connect Academy, for example the Masterclass trainings for CBTC and ETCS.

Key Benefits

  • Key definitions of Digital Signalling, Automatic Train Control and Interoperability
  • The SPA framework for clearer understanding of the Digital Signalling landscape
  • Overview of common mainstream technologies for Digital Signalling
  • Digital Signalling in Australia (as example transferable to other countries)
  • Introduction to ETCS and CBTC technologies for Digital Signalling
  • Example of a bespoke development for Digital Signalling
