No matter how well one understands the policymaking world or the health and technology arenas, there is no advancement of ideas or products without financial support. And 2018 has been no disappointment to those in the digital medicine space. Following record-breaking funding for digital health startups in 2017, the first half of 2018 has continued that financial trajectory. The ready availability of funding is fed by a cohort of returning investors, companies backed by later-stage—hence, larger— funding rounds, and a ready flow of venture capital that is buoying all sectors of the economy. In fact, the venture market is the strongest it has been since 2006.

She is also a senior policy advisor on Capitol Hill and expert on health economics, technology, and reform, specifically as they impact vulnerable populations. Fisher runs a Health Innovation and Policy page at Forbes, highlighting ideas and advising companies and people that are changing the health landscape, and she curates a monthly international dinner series, “A Seat at the Table,” bringing together thought leaders for an off-the-record discussion focused on moving health policy and planning forward. She also runs the nonprofit Global Brain Health Coalition and is pursuing a doctoral degree in health policy at the University of North Carolina.
