Partner at Bird & Bird LLP
Speaker

Profile

Anne, who is based in Bird & Bird’s Brussels office, has over 30 years of experience advising and representing clients in all areas of EU and German competition law.

A key area of her practice are cartel investigations. Anne has steered clients through a large number of EU, German and multinational cartel investigation, assisting them throughout all stages of the process. This has included advising companies how to deal with reports of possibly anticompetitive conduct by employees (often through the company’s whistleblowing hotline) and conducting targeted internal investigations, where Anne cooperates closely with Bird & Bird’s in-house forensic team as well as the firm’s employment and data privacy team. Anne has also supported clients in numerous dawn raids (unannounced on-site inspections by competition authorities) and has extensive experience advising companies on leniency applications. She assists clients in challenging cartel fines imposed by the authority before the courts and in defending clients against damage claims by customers, working closely with the firm’s litigation team.

Anne also frequently assists clients’ compliance teams in developing and delivering competition law and dawn raid trainings and conducting targeted competition law audits.

Clients that seek Anne’s advice on the compliance of their activities with competition law praise Anne’s pragmatic and commercial approach and her ability to help them find workable solutions rather than just offering legal advice.

Anne is a board member of the German competition lawyers association (Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht). She is regularly listed as a “frequently recommended” competition lawyer in the German directory JUVE and as a leading practitioner in The International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers & Economists. She was featured in Global Competition Review's 100 "Women in Antitrust" survey and was ranked as one of the leading female competition lawyers in Belgium in the Euromoney Guide to the World's Leading Women in Business Law.
