Dr Totis Kotsonis is a competition partner who heads the Subsidies, Procurement, Trade Agreements and Trade Remedies team at Pinsent Masons. He has a substantial State aid/subsidy control practice, having advised private sector clients, including in the energy, aerospace and infrastructure sectors, as well as Governments across Europe, on EU State aid rules as well as WTO subsidy control-related matters for more than 20 years.

Totis has also been advising clients on all aspects of the UK’s domestic subsidy control regime and more recently the EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation.

He has been recognised by legal directories for his “magisterial expertise” and “stellar reputation” in state aid regulation, for “not being afraid to challenge legal assumptions” and his “decades of experience in state aid-related judicial proceedings in the EU courts and the English High Court.”

He is a member of the Competition Appeal Tribunal User Group and a European Commission approved arbitrator and trade and sustainable development expert that can act in the context of EU bilateral trade disputes.

He has a PhD from the London School of Economics and qualified as a solicitor in 2003 at Norton Rose Fulbright where he worked for 13 years.
