Nicolas is Deputy-Head of the Mergers Unit at the French Competition Authority, where he has reviewed numerous mergers, and previously litigated others as member of the FCA’s Legal Service (including the Canal plus cases at the Conseil d’Etat and the Conseil Constitutionnel, on the first retrieval of a merger authorisation). Nicolas began his career in private practice at Freshfields, later joined the faculty of law at the College of Europe, before becoming a member of the FCA’s Legal Service and the Université libre de Bruxelles, as a researcher and finally as Professor of EU Law. He further joined Nils Wahl’s Chamber at the CJEU for 3 years before returning to the French Competition Authority.
