Apostolos Baltzopoulos holds a doctorate in Economics from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, and has been active in the field of Competition Law since 2012 when he joined the Swedish Competition Authority as one of the first members of the NCA’s newly formed, at the time, Chief Economist Team. He has since worked or advised on a large number of cases, focusing primarily on Phase II merger investigations. At 2016 he moved to Brussels and DG Competition, first at an operational merger unit before joining DG COMP’s Chief Economist Team in 2018. Over the last three years Apostolos has dedicated most of his time on DG Competition’s antitrust investigations in the pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors and in 2024 he took up the role as the lead economist in DG Competition’s E1 unit, overseeing competition law enforcement in these sectors.
