Sally Shorthose is a Partner in Bird & Bird's Life Sciences team where she is one of the most experienced partners, specialising in transactional IP and regulatory matters. .

Before joining Bird & Bird in 2006, she was head of IP &Life Sciences at another global law firm, after spending 11 years in-house firstly as senior legal adviser at ICI/Zeneca and latterly as Legal Director of Novartis UK.

Providing the full array of commercial advice and support in IP and focussing on the Life Sciences sector, Sally leads the team delivering licensing, partnering and exploitation agreements, and research, development and marketing collaborations. She also advises our clients on a wide variety of regulatory and 'freedom to operate' issues, and manages significant due diligence matters. She is joint head of the International Life Sciences Regulatory Group at Bird & Bird.

Sally’s most recent book ‘The EU Guide to Pharmaceutical Regulatory Law", written entirely by Bird & Bird lawyers, was first published in June 2010 with a new edition due later this year, and will reflect the considerable changes introduced since the last edition, including those brought about by Brexit.

She has been awarded a number of honours, including being “one of the most influential women in IP� (MIP) and, according to Who’s Who Legal Life Sciences she is a Global Elite Thought Leader (transactional IP) and is highly recommended for her regulatory work. She was named as an International IP Star by the respected World Intellectual Property Review 2021.

She is currently joint Head of the Bird & Bird Dublin office, and holds an Irish practising certificate.
