Jan Böttcher is the Head of Policy Affairs and Government Relations for the German Cooperative Financial Network (CFN) at the National Association of German Cooperative Banks (BVR), representing 700 cooperative banks across Germany. As Senior Vice President, Jan reports directly to the president of BVR.
In his role, Jan and his team evaluate the implications of emerging developments—such as the Digital Euro, distributed ledger technology (DLT), and deposit protection schemes—on cooperative banks and the CFN as a whole. His unit is also responsible for government relations and the CFN's sustainable finance strategy.
Jan serves as the Chairman of the Foundation of the Cooperative Information Centre, dedicated to preserving the history of cooperatives in Germany, and is a board member of the European Forum of Deposit Insurers (EFDI).
Before joining BVR in 2014, Jan was with the Association of German Banks, where he managed the resolution processes for two German banks: Düsseldorfer Hypothekenbank AG and Valovis Bank AG. He also served as Managing Director of Resba Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH and was a member of the Supervisory Board of ENDIR 1 Abwicklungsgesellschaft mbH.
Earlier in his career, Jan practiced law at an international law firm, advising banks on regulatory issues and financing transactions. He holds a Doctorate in Law and a Master’s degree in European and International Laws.
