Dr Michael Stopfkuchen is Head of Sustainability and Communications at AKA European Export + Trade Bank in Germany, and in this function he is responsible for the sustainability strategy and cross-divisional coordination of all corporate-wide sustainability projects. In addition to developing innovative approaches, products and services for green and sustainable trade finance, cooperation with external partners at institutional and corporate level is in his role of great importance.

Previously, Dr Stopfkuchen was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Trade and Innovation (IfTI) at Offenburg University, advising ECAs, MDBs and public authorities on export finance, international trade and public policy management. He was responsible for conducting benchmark and market studies, developing strategy and policy frameworks as well as training programmes.

After his move to the AKA Bank he remains at IfTI as an external Senior Fellow to support the institute in developing new approaches in trade and export finance with a strong emphasis on sustainability and green finance.

Dr Michael Stopfkuchen holds a PhD from Northumbria University (Business and Law), a Master’s degree from Offenburg University (Business) as well as a international Bachelor’s double degree from DHBW/Open University (Business).
