From tech to African music and sports powerhouses: Investing in Africa

In December, SuperReturn Africa kicked off with three days of incomparable insights on investment opportunities in Africa, sustainability, infrastructure trends, filling the financing gaps, disruptive technology, co-investments, diversity and talent, LP allocations, regional perspectives from the experts, and much more! Now that the dust have settled, we're excited to feature the first episode of the Silverbacks Valley with Ibrahim Sagna, a pioneer member of the SuperReturn Africa advisory board, in conversation with music superstar Mr. Eazi.
For its first episode, Silverbacks Valley welcomes Mr Eazi, a music superstar who has surpassed a billion streams and collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé, J Balvin and Major Lazer. Mr Eazi is also a VC investor and CEO of emPawa, a music talent incubator representing over 100 artists. He's a board member in our parent company, Silverbacks Holdings and joined our portfolio company, the Cape Town Tigers basketball team, as an investor.
In this episode, we zoom in on Mr. Eazi's journey through investing and the lessons learned on the way. He tells all about starting out his journey in entrepreneurship in a now defunct incubator 440NG and getting his first funding. Learn how Mr. Eazi leveraged his instinct for picking good talent, why he turned down a six million dollar deal from a music company and got his company to be worth four times that amount and the importance of the orange economy.
