2021 AGENDA - Day 2
- Jesper Kjaedegaard - Partner/ Chairman, Mercator International / Global Liner Shipping
Sustainability is increasingly starting to dominate both the public and political discourse, as well as policies and commercial strategies. With the 2050 decarbonisation goals shaping the future of shipping, we asked this leading operator to map out their course for the Green (R)Evolution .
Part of the complexity of the sustainability conversation in liner shipping is the lack of consensus about what THE future fuel is. In support of the previous conversation, we turn to one of the leading providers of science and intelligence on this topic to shed some light on propulsion, emissions and how to build your strategy for 2050.
This industry panel will aim to take the discussion on decarbonisation from the realm of crystal ball predictions, to a practical discussion around what know, for sure right now, what information is still missing and points to consider as we set out a plan of action for 2050.

In the drive to enhance the sustainability of our business, a good place to start is answering the questions: do you know, accurately and reliably the amount and nature of emissions? And from there, do you have the information on how to improve the numbers? These are questions that data analytics were born to solve and we will now take a look at the intersection of data management and sustainability.
In the 21st century, data has become the new oil for all domains of the business world. The ocean shipping industry is not an exception. New technologies and data standardization initiatives introduced recently provide the industry with new opportunities to be more efficient. However, companies encounter an enormous number of challenges and roadblocks adopting those technologies and standards. Our presentation aims to share our observations and thoughts of what is happening now in the industry, and provide some examples of how the leading industry players overcome the challenges and benefit from the innovations.
- Geesche Laksola - Business Lead, Youredi
One of the most frequent comments we have heard form our colleagues in the industry with regards to the state of digital transformation in our business is "We must separate the promise from implemented, proven solutions. Show me what IS, rather than what CAN BE". In this session SAP will present a case study that does just that!

DCSA has stated: "Widespread adoption of DCSA standards will advance the industry in terms of visibility and real-time responsiveness, resulting in greater reliability and a better customer experience." We have invited them back to give us a timely update on their progress and what's next for alignment in the industry.
No matter on which side of the digitisation discussion you find yourself, the industry is pushing forward with investment in automation and smart business tools. COVID-19 has created the ultimate litmus test for digitisation and will start by taking stock of the areas it has delivered, vs the ones in which it was lacking and the we discuss what the next is, or should be.
