EVP, Chief Banking Officer at American Bank
Speaker

Profile

Zane Smith is Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Officer of American Bank, N.A., a Dallas-area community bank with offices in Grapevine, Texas. He helps lead the bank's strategy, commercial banking, credit, revenue growth, and business-line expansion. Since joining American Bank in 2020, including an earlier role as EVP and Chief Credit & Risk Officer, he has helped lead the bank through a period of organic growth, from about $100 million to more than $783 million in assets.

Under his leadership, American Bank has scaled commercial real estate lending specifically on Hospitality assets, high net worth RLOC, note-on-note facilities to private commercial real estate lenders, and it has started lending against Bitcoin collateral. He started his career as a national bank examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where he learned how banks break before he learned how to help them grow.

Zane is a hands-on AI practitioner. He runs a team of AI assistants for executive, pipeline, and collateral-monitoring work, all under human-in-the-loop controls and a bank-wide AI governance policy.
