Profile
Katie Decker-Erickson brings nearly two decades of experience guiding capital improvement projects for multifamily, commercial, and mixed-use portfolios across the country. As Founder of Color Works Design, she partners with developers, investors, and ownership groups to reposition assets, strengthen market competitiveness, and drive sustained occupancy.
Her expertise spans the full project lifecycle: from reimagining exteriors and amenities to sourcing, procurement, budgeting, and project management. With a national footprint and a reputation for disciplined execution, Katie leads a team that delivers spaces aligned with both investment goals and the daily lives of residents, tenants, and end users.
Holding an MBA and certification as an Architectural Color Consultant, she approaches design through the lens of an asset and portfolio leader. Every project balances functionality, aesthetic appeal, and financial impact—maximizing value while creating environments where people want to live, work, and connect.
In addition to her client work, Katie is the author of Capitalizing on Color, a widely read newsletter for property owners, investors, and asset managers, and the host of Success by Design, a podcast and mentorship program equipping interior designers with the tools to run profitable firms. Katie is an active member of the National Apartment Association and WithIt!, the Interior Design Society, where she has served as both a national judge and speaker.
