Michael Friedman is CEO of Simple Life Hospitality, a luxury vacation rental company managing 140+ homes across multiple markets. Before joining Simple Life, he was COO–Americas at onefinestay (Accor Group), where he oversaw a portfolio of more than 3,500 luxury homes. His career spans a boutique multi-market operator and global scale, and he has run the operating playbook at both ends.

Michael was named a top-20 most influential professional in the global vacation rental industry by Rentals United. His perspective is operator-first and skeptical of an industry that has handed too much margin and too many guest relationships to the OTAs. He argues that the operators who win the next decade will own their distribution, data, and direct relationships. He writes and speaks on this for Skift and PhocusWire, and through his LinkedIn commentary.

Michael writes on how AI is reshaping travel distribution and hospitality operations, with a focus on agentic AI and who controls the guest relationship. His recent work includes a close reading of Google’s agentic hotel booking test and what it means for independent operators, and a practitioner’s view of how AI should be used in day-to-day operations: automating the friction, never the hospitality. He is developing further analysis on AI in travel for trade media and a white paper on AI and the future of travel and hospitality.

Michael co-founded Vacation Rental University, which gives operators the education and community the industry has not built for itself. He serves on the VRNation Advisory Board. His work is guided by a simple framework: Cash. Care. Communication.
