Amid coronavirus concerns and downturns in the economy, uncertainty is at an all-time high, and advisors need answers. With so many strategies available in the market, it can be time-consuming and overwhelming to figure out where to look for concrete solutions. It’s time for the antidote.

Daniel Straus (National Bank of Canada), Bill DeRoche (AGF), Tommy Nguyen (Desjardins) and an all-star cast of ETF professionals join forces to share knowledge you can take to your clients, mitigate downside risk, and hear new best practices for both portfolios and your business.

“This is not just going to be another webinar, it’s going to be a think tank of tangible solutions and creativity that will be invaluable to investors,” said CEO of Inside ETFs John Swolfs. He refers to the upcoming webinar series hosted by Inside ETFs, in conjunction with Desjardins, Manulife, AGF, Franklin Templeton and Globe and Mail. The five-part series takes place over three days in June and covers a wide variety of ETF topics.

Day one

The webinar kicks off Tuesday, June 9 with an in-depth analysis of market-neutral ETFs presented by Tommy Nguyen, head of Global Equity at Desjardins. Desjardins was the first to list an actively managed market-neutral ETF (DANC) back in January 2019 and has used similar active management strategies since 2017. DANC aims to provide positive returns regardless of how the market moves. Nguyen discusses the structure of these ETFs further, elaborating on the intricacies associated with cash flow and derivatives, which lead to a more holistic and rounded approach to investing.

The second half of day one examines liquid alternatives with AGF. Bill DeRoche, chief investment officer and head of AGFiQ Alternative Strategies, joins Mark Stacey, SVP, co-CIO of AGFiQ Quantitative Investing and head of Portfolio Management, for a robust and transparent discussion on why liquid alternatives are key to financial success. In 2019, AGF launched one of its newest liquid alternative ETFs, the GLIF AGFiQ Global Infrastructure ETF. DeRoche and Stacey focus on risk-adjusted returns using factor-driven investment strategies that will protect client portfolios in the event of market turmoil.

On to day two

Day two, June 10, continues with the same momentum brought to you on day one with an opening segment regarding the importance of fixed income ETFs presented by John Beck, SVP, director of Fixed Income, Franklin Templeton Fixed Income Group, and Tom O’Gorman, SVP, director of Franklin Bissett Fixed Income, Franklin Bissett Investment Management. With mounting COVID-19 concerns and market fluctuations, every day seems to bring new challenges. Beck and O’Gorman look at past market outcomes and how fixed income solutions are the way forward for stability within portfolios. By building a stable environment now, we capture clients for years to come.

"It’s time for the antidote. Daniel Straus (National Bank of Canada), Bill DeRoche (AGF), Tommy Nguyen (Desjardins) and an all-star cast of ETF professionals join forces to share knowledge you can take to your clients, mitigate downside risk, and hear new best practices for both portfolios and your business."

The second day concludes with an in-depth analysis of the current macroeconomic outlook presented by Philip Petursson, chief investment strategist and head of Capital Markets Research, Manulife Investment Management. Manulife, a leader in multifactor ETFs, works on several products that will help hedge portfolios for better outcomes. With the upcoming U.S. election and international market volatility, this panel is a must-see for anyone looking to understand investing strategies on a larger, more global scale.

The final day

Finally, The Globe and Mail joins forces with industry thought leaders for a dynamic discussion regarding practice management, mega trends and balanced strategies. Pablo Fuchs, Globe Advisor Editor at The Globe and Mail, is joined by Daniel Straus, VP and research analyst, ETF Research Group, National Bank for a preliminary overview of the market as it stands and the future of industry trends. He is also joined by Rodrigo Gordillo, president and portfolio manager, ReSolve Asset Management, who discusses macro factors and the age-old narrative of “doing no harm” to clients as a foundation for your practice. Last but certainly not least, Fuchs is joined by Rob Duncan, SVP and portfolio manager at Forstrong, who offers you strategies to interact with your advisors after lockdown and reviews policy responses that all advisors should be aware of.

The five-part webinar series is part of a continuing education program created by Inside ETFs, ensuring consistent education throughout the year. Its goal is to serve the advisor community during a time of uncertainty and to help them meet the challenges of our “new normal” head on.
