Patricia McGovern is the Chairman and Head of the Intellectual Property Department at DFMG Solicitors LLP in Dublin, Ireland. She is a Solicitor, Irish Trade Mark Agent and a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney.

She has practised in almost all areas of intellectual property law. She is regarded as one of the leading intellectual property lawyers in Ireland and has consistently been highly recommended by organisations such as “The Legal 500”.

She has considerable experience in advising on brand strategies, protection strategies for patents, trade marks, designs and copyright, the prosecution to registration of trade marks and designs, the exploitation of intellectual property rights including licence arrangements, and on contentious matters to include trade mark, copyright and design infringement actions, passing off actions, anti-counterfeiting actions, actions for invalidity of patents and for declarations of non-infringement.

She also advises on data protection and the competition aspects of intellectual property. She has extensive experience in dealing with issues affecting e-commerce and the internet, all aspects of technology agreements, all types of media contracts and the intellectual property aspects of employment. Her practice also encompasses advising on advertising and sales promotions and on defamation.

Patricia is a current member and former Chairman of the IP and Data Protection Committee of the Law Society of Ireland and is also a former Chairman of its Business Law Committee.

She was one of the three Government appointed members of the Copyright Review Group in Ireland which carried out an extensive review of copyright law and reported in 2013.

Patricia is active in many intellectual property organisations both in Ireland and abroad. She has written and lectured extensively both in Ireland and internationally on general business law and intellectual property topics.

Under leadership, the firm has been the recipient of many awards.
