Recently, MISC Magazine published an interview with 3M New Ventures Director at 3M, Thomas Andrae, who will be speaking at the Front End of Innovation EMEA.

There are many designators that describe the ideal environment. 

Certainly the idea is very important, probably most important, but the skill set of the team, of the founders too is very important. 
They need to be able to take the idea to the next significant level. 

I'm not saying they need to take it all the way to IPO or a trade sale, but they need to be able to grow the business and sustain the business for the next three to five years. 

The type of environment we're looking for, just to give you an idea, are places like MIT in Boston. 

The quality of the business plans and the quality of the ideas are unparalleled. Because they are really able to take things to the next level, they are not incremental in their thinking, it's a completely different approach, and this is what you need to drive disruptive innovation, you need to come from a completely different angle.
