James Lister heads the Private Wealth Disputes practice at Stevens & Bolton LLP.

James is a specialist trust and estates litigator advising on UK and international disputes. He works primarily on disputes relating to HNW and UHNW individuals and their affairs, both on and offshore. Within this, James has substantial experience in advising trustees and beneficiaries on trust claims and also on contested probate matters. James regularly advises clients on claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 and concerning disputes over estate and trust administration, in addition to assisting trustees and beneficiaries in disputes involving the matrimonial courts.

James is recommended as a “Contentious Trusts Lawyer” in the 2025 Spears 500, is listed in Legal Week’s Private Client Excellence Directory 2024, and in the Citywealth “Top 100 International Private Client Litigation Lawyers 2024”.
