Dr Ka-Wai Wan is a pharmacist by training and graduated from The School of Pharmacy (University of London). She completed her PhD in protein and gene delivery using nanomedicine at the Welsh School of Pharmacy (Cardiff, UK). She worked as a research academic, specialising in nano-based drug delivery systems, such as polymers, liposomes and lipid nanoparticles, for over a decade prior to her transition to the MHRA as a pharmaceutical assessor. Ka-Wai now leads on the assessment of nano-based medicinal products, providing scientific and regulatory advice on medicines, particularly on nanomaterials used for both small and macromolecules delivery. This includes nucleic acids delivery using lipid nanoparticles for a wide variety of medical applications.
