With a background in innovation, electronics and biomedical engineering, this is a woman that has taken a huge interest in medical technology – and how to better patient care.
Sara Edvardsen spends most of her time helping a variety of people in Norway understand the regulatory requirements associated with medical devices. Ranging from start-ups, to large companies. Involving everything from academic research projects, to commercialised products in the industry.
Working as a research scientist at St.Olavs hospital – Trondheim University Hospital, her focus is mainly on clinical investigation of medical devices.
Highly prioritised at the Centre for Medical Devices, Technology and Innovation, is the collaboration between the hospital, academia and industry. Something the team has been involved in for several decades, and is recognised for, in the research and development of medical devices. Due to such work, the centre was chosen to become the national centre for medical devices in the national partnership NorTrials.
In this partnership, Sara has also taken on national responsibility as a regulatory advisor on the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). Through this role, she is working on a mission to
improve today’s patients’ access to tomorrow’s technology, by increasing the number of clinical investigations of medical devices performed in Norway.
