Sara Edvardsen
Research Scientist - Centre for Medical Devices, Technology and Innovation at St. Olavs hospital, Trondheim University Hospital
Speaker

Profile

With a background in innovation, electronics and biomedical engineering, this is a woman who has taken a huge interest in medical technology – and how to better patient care.

Sara Edvardsen spends most of her time helping a variety of people in Norway understand the regulatory requirements associated with medical devices. Ranging from start-ups, to large companies. Involving everything from academic research projects, to commercialised products in the industry.

Working as a research scientist at St.Olavs hospital – Trondheim University Hospital, her focus is mainly on clinical investigation of medical devices. She’s part of the Centre for Innovation, Medical Devices and Technology, which highly prioritises collaboration between the hospital, academia and industry. The centre is recognised for its great environment for research and innovation of medical devices, and has been involved in this work for decades. Due to this, the centre was in 2022 chosen to become the centre for medical devices in the national partnership NorTrials.

In NorTrials, Sara has taken on national responsibility as a regulatory advisor on the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). Through this role, she is working on a mission to improve today’s patients’ access to tomorrow’s technology, by increasing the number of clinical investigations of medical devices performed in Norway.
