Juan Francisco Sanchez LopezR&D Scientist at Brandon BioscienceSpeaker
Profile
Dr Juan Francisco Sánchez López is a plant developmental biologist specialised in thermomorphogenesis and plant development under prolonged high-temperature growth conditions, focusing on the reproductive phase of plants. During his PhD at the Central Europe Institute of Technology (CEITEC), in the Czech Republic, he recreated high-temperature environmental stress conditions and adapted a wide range of techniques to visualise the impact of heat stress on pollen, ovule, embryo, and seed development in Arabidopsis thaliana. During his PhD studies he attended international conferences, such as Plant Biology CS 2019, ICAR 2021, the Thermomorphogenesis meeting 2022 and ICSPR 2022, where he was awarded with the best oral presentation.
In Brandon Bioscience, he uses his knowledge to evaluate how biostimultans enhance plant fitness during the reproductive phase of plants under environmental stress conditions. He uses chilli peppers as a model plant to study how ovule and fruit development, oxidative stress and anatomical changes are affected in treated plants grown at high temperatures. He communicates his research between industry and academia using the RECROP cost network.
