Profile
Prof. Dr. Marc Knight is currently based at the Institute of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences, Martin Luther University Halle Wittenberg, Germany. He is internationally recognised for his research on plant cell signalling, with a particular focus on calcium as a second messenger in plant stress responses and gene regulation. Over the past decade, his research has also expanded to include the development and mechanistic understanding of small molecule biostimulants for crop improvement. His work integrates molecular genetics, cell biology, advanced imaging, and quantitative approaches to understand how plants perceive and respond to environmental stress. Prior to his current role, he was a group leader at the University of Oxford, where he also held positions as a Royal Society University Research Fellow and University Lecturer. He later served as Professor of Plant Cell Signalling at Durham University. He completed his undergraduate studies at Durham University and his PhD at the University of Glasgow, postdoc at the University of Edinburgh and has published extensively in leading international journals.
