Championing Sustainability at Obesity Science & Innovation USA (OSI USA)

At OSI USA, we are committed to running events which are both environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. From the innovative ways we interact onsite to the radical changes in the way we build our exhibition - here is a breakdown of how we are embedding sustainability in everything we do.

How are we building a sustainable event?

We believe a sustainable event focuses on three main aspects...

Social Responsibility

We want to run the event in a socially responsible manner. To do so, we are focusing on:

  • Doing business safely and ethically
  • Considering wellbeing and accessibility
  • Creating a positive impact on our host cities and measuring those impacts

Environmental Responsibility

The event will be run in an increasingly environmentally responsible manner, focusing on:

  • Reducing carbon emissions
  • Designing our events to eliminate waste
  • Considering sustainability credentials for every item sourced for the event

Sustainable Development

Our aim for the event is to promote long-term sustainable development — not only in the way we run the event, but also for the market in which we operate, committing to:

  • Using our content to support the sustainability of the biotech, medtech, and pharmatech industries
  • Developing close partnerships with relevant charities, companies, and associations, and giving them a platform to promote their work in the field
  • Facilitating discussions on pertinent topics including: diversity & inclusion, gender balance, sustainability trends, the industry's impact on the environment, and more
  • Improving access to our events for young companies and the next generation of biotech, medtech, and pharmatech leaders

Sustainability at BioProcess International

We are committed to BioProcess International having a positive impact on people and planet. We want to play a key role in helping the Life Sciences Industries improve its own sustainability by connecting people with the networks and knowledge they need to help solve the big challenges of the future.

We are proud to deliver you a sustainable event by launching several new initiatives noted below.

Digital Event Agenda

In lieu of distributing a printed agenda, we will deliver an environmentally-friendly digital agenda through our ConnectMe app

Lanyards & Name Tags

We will be using a TerraCycle Zero Waste Box to recycle used lanyards and nametags after the event.

Diversity & Inclusion

At BioProcess International, we want everyone to feel like they belong and for our communities to feel inspired and benefit from the diverse identities, innovation and ideas we showcase.

Renewable Energy

As a part of our continued commitment to the sustainability of this conference, we have switched to 100% renewable electricity for our event. This makes our electricity usage carbon neutral and significantly reduces the carbon footprint of our event

Our ‘Better Stands’ Approach

Through our commitment to the evolution of the exhibitions industry, we aim to ensure that we are delivering the best possible experience for our customers. We believe that by moving away from the use of disposable exhibition booths we will improve the ease, quality, safety and sustainability of the exhibitor experience at our events. We aim to further minimize exhibition waste by removing carpet in our aisles, using digital signage options as much as possible or using eco cardboard. Finally, encouraging our exhibitors to minimize handouts by utilizing our digital download QR code technology at their booths.

Wellbeing

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can make a huge difference to your wellbeing and physical and mental performance, whether in the office, at home or at an event. At BioProcess International, we have incorporated wellbeing activities into the agenda, hydration stations and more.

Sustainability Initiatives

We are proud to deliver you a sustainable event by launching several new initiatives noted below.

Food & Beverage

During the event, you will find biodegradable food packaging as well as corn-based fully compostable cups and utensils. Look out for the various receptacles to recycle paper, plastic and glass waste. Follow the signs to our locally sourced, vegan and vegetarian lunch buffet EACH DAY while the hall is open for more healthy and vegetarian options. Together we can reduce our carbon footprint!

Transportation - Take the "T"

Did you know that Boston is a very walkable city! You can also use our extensive transportation system to navigate from the Hynes to Harvard without having to "Paaark ya Caar". Check out all the options to get from here to there on the Meet Boston - Getting Around Boston Site.

If you like to bike - don't miss the Boston's BLUEbikes our bike sharing system that provides over 1,000 bikes in the city.

Going Carbon Neutral

Going carbon neutral means that we will continue to reduce as many greenhouse gas emissions as possible and compensate for the remaining carbon emissions our show emits (from travel, hotel stays, energy-use, waste, etc.) through the purchase of high-quality carbon offsets.

Hydration Stations – Bring your own water bottle!

Don’t forget to pack your reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Hydration stations will be provided outside of session rooms and inside the exhibit halls of all our events.
