Claudio Mereu is a partner in the Bird & Bird Brussels office with over 27 years of experience in EU regulatory law. He is widely recognised for his deep expertise in chemicals, pesticides and biocides, as well as other regulated consumer, professional and industrial products. His practice focuses particularly on EU chemicals legislation, including REACH and CLP, and covers the full spectrum of product regulatory issues such as notification and registration, exemptions and derogations, mutual recognition, classification and labelling, marketing and use restrictions, parallel imports, environmental liability, product recalls and scientific data compensation.

Claudio’s work spans advisory, advocacy and litigation before both EU and national courts. He regularly assists clients in navigating complex EU regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements, and he represents companies in high‑stakes litigation against decisions issued by EU institutions, agencies and national authorities.

He also advises chemical companies on strategic and business law matters, including commercial agreements and regulatory due diligence relating to acquisitions and divestments of product portfolios.

A frequent speaker at international conferences, Claudio has contributed to numerous publications and is recognised for his clear, practice‑oriented insights. He is Italian‑French bilingual and fluent in English and Spanish.
