João heads the Waste Management Department at SPV since 2005. SPV is the leading packaging recovery organization in Portugal with a market share over 80%. His department ensures the closing of the cycle for packaging waste of municipal origin in Portugal, guaranteeing the recycling of over 400.000 t of packaging waste in 2023. His team is also in charge of Prevention and Ecodesign of packaging waste at SPV, serving the packaging value chain.He started his career in the paper pulp industry and later worked for the plastics industry regarding the recycling of packaging waste in Portugal as an operation’s manager. João has over 25 years of work experience and holds a BSc in Biological Resources Engineering from the Universidade de Maryland, a MSc in Engineering and Managament of Technology from the Technical University of Lisbon and a management pos-graduate degree from NOVA School of Business and Economics of Lisbon.
