Caryl HarrisHarris, Co-Founder & Executive Director at Avery's HopeSpeaker
Profile
Caryl and her husband Eric co-founded Avery's Hope in honor and celebration of their grandson, Avery, who lives with an ultra rare GI disease, Microvillus Inclusion Disease. They started Avery's Hope in 2017 to help pediatric GI patient families with out-of-pocket and insurance-denied expenses. Avery's Hope now also offers a Healing Arts Program and BasiCare Plus Program to help with access to mental health services and programs.
Caryl is a member of the Patient Advocate Action Collective with No Patient Left Behind, is an active member of the Community Congress as part of the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases and has brought Avery's Hope into membership at the National Organization for Rare Disorders and the Global Genes Rare Patient Alliance.
She holds an M.A. in English Literature from Rutgers University, but her education really began the year Avery was born with a rare disease.
