Gregory Gambescia is the Director for Specialty Pharmacy at Independence Blue Cross. He possesses over 20 years of Managed Care experience and specializes in Medical Specialty Pharmacy management. Mr. Gambescia’s focus is on Medical Specialty drugs (infusions) that are covered under the medical benefit. In his current role at Independence, Greg develops and implements management strategies to save on the rising drug costs and manages a drug expenditure over $900 million per year for the health plan. Mr. Gambescia has developed programs such as the Most Cost-Effective Setting (MCES) program and Dosage & Frequency program and works directly with manufacturers to develop and negotiate rebate and value-based contacts.

Mr. Gambescia leads a team that evaluates and develops pipeline drug monitoring for new drugs and provides direction and strategies for coverage of these drugs through the appropriate channels. He is an integral member of the Medical Cost Council and provides strategic direction on new initiatives to save on medical costs. Mr. Gambescia focused his attention to specialty pharmacy management where he has become a subject matter expert in the field and successfully lead a team for the past 15 years.

Mr. Gambescia graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. He also has two master’s degrees in nursing administration (MSN) as well as in business (MBA) from La Salle University. Mr. Gambescia has presented at numerous conferences nationally and as a recognized expert in the Specialty Pharmacy arena.
