Machteld is partner in De Brauw's litigation group and heads its Mass Claims & Class Actions practice. Acting as lead counsel on behalf of national and international companies in all types of litigation, Machteld has broad experience at all levels of the judiciary in the Netherlands and abroad. Machteld is involved in, amongst other things, the trucks case as lead counsel for DAF, and the collective action against Booking on parity clauses.

Machteld publishes and lectures on Dutch procedural law, in particular collective redress, is chairwoman of the editorial board of the journal Mass Claims and founding board member of the Dutch association for mass damage and collective actions (VEMCA).

Machteld heads De Brauw’s Pro Bono Practice, winning Chambers' "Pro Bono: Outstanding Firm" award (2019, 2024) and nominated for the Chambers' Outstanding Contribution Award (2022, 2025). After being seconded to the New York law firm Paul, Weiss for a year, Machteld was awarded The Legal Aid Society’s (US) Pro Bono Publico Award.

Machteld was named ‘Legal Woman of the Year, 2018’ by Legal Women. She is ranked by Chambers and as Leading Individual in Legal500, Class Actions.
