A very good overview of radiation protection. Excellent opportunities to speak with presenters and other participants. Christ's College is amazing!

What Does the Summer School Cover?

While the detailed programme is refreshed every year to reflect the latest developments in radiological protection, the Summer School consistently covers the full breadth of the discipline, including:

The history and future of radiological protection, including the evolution of ICRP recommendations and international dose quantities

UK and international regulatory frameworks, including the Ionising Radiations Regulations (IRR17) and emerging guidance

Operational radiation protection across nuclear power, defence, decommissioning and fuel cycle facilities

Health physics fundamentals, dosimetry and radiation monitoring instrumentation

Medical, dental and veterinary radiation protection, including optimisation in diagnostic imaging and staff protection

Biological effects of ionising radiation, from DNA damage mechanisms to the debate beyond the linear no-threshold

Non-ionising radiation safety, covering optical radiation, lasers and electromagnetic fields (EMF)

Emerging technologies in radiation protection, including robotics, drones, AI and data-driven monitoring

Why Attend the Annual Radiological Protection Summer School

Why Choose This Radiation Protection Course?

Since 1988, our CPD-accredited Summer School has built nearly four decades of trust as one of the most respected names in UK radiation protection training, consistently drawing delegates back year after year. This intensive, five-day course offers complete, comprehensive coverage of radiological protection, providing a time-efficient and cost-effective alternative to longer technical training options. Designed for maximum career impact, the knowledge-based format features learning without exams, quizzes, or assessments, allowing attendees to fully focus on deep understanding, interactive discussions, and practical application.

It serves as an invaluable senior peer network where early-career attendees gain direct access to experienced professionals who are actively shaping the field. Furthermore, this fully residential program includes all accommodation, meals, and course materials to create an immersive learning environment that extends far beyond the lecture room.

Learn From Leading Radiation Protection Experts

Each edition of the Summer School is delivered by a hand-picked faculty of practising experts drawn from across the radiological protection community: operational health physicists, regulators, academics, defence specialists and consultants who work with these challenges every day.

Previous editions have featured senior figures from organisations including the Royal Navy, Sellafield Ltd, EDF Energy, the University of Oxford, the Environment Agency, the Food Standards Agency, Nuclear Waste Services, the National Nuclear Laboratory and the ITER Organization, alongside leading independent consultants in radiation metrology, dosimetry and radiation safety.

The faculty for the next edition will be announced in due course. Register your interest to be notified when speakers are confirmed.
