Profile

David has recently retired as Professor of Radiochemistry at the University of Surrey, having worked in the fields of radiochemistry and waste management for more than 40 years. He was responsible for regulatory review of the proposed Rock Characterisation Facility at Sellafield, Onkalo in Finland and sites in Sweden, Japan and Germany.

Over the past 25 years, he has developed detailed strategies for dealing with industrial NORM, which affects the oil & gas, mining, chemical and processing industries. This work includes ‘cradle to the grave’ BPEO/BAT and risk assessment studies. He has published extensively in this area and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Radiological Protection. David has acted as an expert advisor on nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management policy at BEIS and is a current member of COMARE (Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment) where he chairs the Contaminations Working Group. He has board level experience in both the public and private sectors having founded several successful start-up companies.
