Hugh is a clinical scientist and has spent most of his career providing support for the safe and effective use of radiation in hospitals and universities in the UK and overseas. He has degrees in physics and medical physics from Liverpool and Aberdeen Universities. He is a chartered radiation protection professional and has been elected to fellowships of the British Institute of Radiology, Institute of Physics and Engineering, Society for Radiological Protection, Chartered Management Institute and Higher Education Academy. He currently has a portfolio of mainly honorary roles and continues to play an active professional role promoting radiation safety and other interests.
