Profile

Joanne Brown has over 35 years’ experience in radiation protection in the area of health risk assessment and development of public health guidance and advice on radiation protection issues, including drinking water and radioactive contaminated land. She has extensive experience in emergency response following nuclear accidents on transfer in the terrestrial environment, dose assessment, environmental monitoring and the implementation of remediation options for drinking water and inhabited areas, including waste water. She has run a radiochemistry laboratory within Public Health England and undertaken a wide range of research projects and site-specific studies involving both experimental work and radiological dose assessment. She is currently working at IAEA as Head of the Assessment and Management of Environmental Releases Unit, focussing on developing international guidance on protection of people and the environment from radioactive releases.
