Dr John Harrison is a member of the Main Commission of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), and chairman of ICRP Committee 2 on dosimetry and of a Task Group on the use of effective dose.
John retired in October 2015 from the position of Director of the Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards (CRCE) of Public Health England (PHE). He worked for the National Radiological Protection Board from 1974 until it became part of CRCE within the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in 2005; the HPA became part of PHE in April 2013. His research background is in the biokinetics, dosimetry and effects of radionuclides. He received two 20 year long-service awards!
John is now a visiting professor in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences of Oxford Brookes University, and also retains an honorary position at PHE CRCE. He is a member of the government Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment (COMARE), a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Radiological Protection, and an honorary fellow of the Society for Radiological Protection.
