Lieutenant Commander Mark Chambers is a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional and Royal Navy Health Physicist with over 15 years' experience in operational health physics and nuclear emergency response within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion and Strategic Weapons Programmes.
Mark has previously been the Operational Health Physics Group Manager at HMNB Clyde, where he was responsible for the provision of all radiological protection advice in support of submarine reactor plant maintenance and repair activities. Prior to that he was the Facilities Health Physicist at HMNB Devonport where he was responsible for the provision of an integrated waste management system at the complex site. Mark has experience in the areas of PWR operations, waste management, radiation protection policy and decommissioning; where he has project managed several complex nuclear decommissioning schemes.
In his current position Mark is the Royal Navy Command Radiation Policy Officer, a role with extensive responsibility as the sole appointed RPA supporting Royal Navy submarines, ships and shore establishments in the UK, abroad and deployed operationally, on all aspects of radiation protection and nuclear emergency response. In his spare time Mark is a member of the Society for Radiological Protection’s Strategic Planning Committee.
