Richard Parlone graduated from the Open University with a degree in environmental management. He joined the UK nuclear industry in 1989, working at the Sizewell A Power Station site in Suffolk, a twin steel pressure vessel Magnox reactor which ceased electricity generation at the end of 2006. During his 16 years at Sizewell A, he was responsible for aspects of the operational radiological protection, radioactive waste, environmental monitoring and environmental management programmes, as well as assisting with the preparation of decommissioning plans for the site. In 2005 he joined the Environmental Support section at Sizewell B Power Station, currently the only civil Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) in the UK, working as a Radiation Protection Adviser and Radioactive Waste Adviser in operational radiological protection and radioactive waste management. Richard’s 15 years in EDF has mostly been based at Sizewell B, but did include 4 years working in London on the Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C projects. Richard is also a duty health physicist, supporting the site’s emergency plan and area RADSAFE/NAIR schemes.
