James FisherVP Mergers and Acquisitions, Principal at FP TransitionsSpeaker
Profile
From flying seaplanes and diving into shipwrecks to standing inside the Pyramid of Khafre in Egypt, James is always in pursuit of the next great adventure. As Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions at FP Transitions, he brings that same spirit of exploration to helping financial professionals navigate complex transactions with confidence and clarity.
James began his career as a financial enforcement officer for Oregon’s Division of Finance and Corporate Securities (now the Division of Financial Regulation), ensuring compliance with securities and commodities laws. He later transitioned to private practice, litigating aviation accident cases nationwide. A serendipitous seat assignment next to FP Transitions’ founder, David Grau Sr., on a flight from Minneapolis led James to trade the courtroom for the dynamic world of mergers and acquisitions, where his regulatory and legal expertise helps clients tackle challenges and seize opportunities.
A commercial pilot, flight instructor, certified scuba diver, and aviation law professor, James brings a unique perspective to his work. When he’s not guiding transactions, he’s restoring a 1966 Mustang with his wife, exploring Oregon’s trails with his family and rescue dog, or teaching aviation law at two of Oregon’s law schools. He also serves as legal counsel for a local aviation nonprofit, combining his passion for law and flight to support the next generation of aviators.”
