Profile

Martin is one of the Marine Response Specialists working with the global Ambipar Response family to deliver marine response & salvage support operations all over the world. I have led several UK MCA National Stockpile response operations and national exercises that evolved the operational standard for current operations in the UK. I have led multiple international operations with the global Ambipar family including OS35, Onego Traveler, Ultra Galaxy and the MT Sounion pollution prevention operation whilst providing support and technical assistance for many other response & salvage support operations around the world, including the Dali response operation in Baltimore.

He is a UK Engineering Council registered Engineering Technician from a marine, aerospace, and operational project engineering background. Since my time in the Royal Navy I have brought conceptual ideas into reality and been involved in some very interesting marine operations such as the MT Sounion salvage operation off the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea. I was the pollution prevention salvage support lead for the international multi company MT Sounion salvage operation. Undertaking salvage operations in a recognised war zone on a burning oil tanker full of crude oil required a different approach to normal operations and a unique partnership with EUNAVFOR for the initial salvage operation. To aid the smooth running of the operation and to provide a direct link from the EUNAVFOR operation command to the salvage operation command team I was forward deployed on to the Nave Andrea Doria one of the Italian Naval assets and flagship for the EUNAVFOR operation, as Salvage Liaison Officer. The Salvage Liaison Officer role for the close protection phase of the MT Sounion salvage operation involved briefing the naval onsite command, ensuring salvage and naval terminology were understood by all parties and making sure nothing was lost in translation between the members of the multinational command staff on board.

Returning to the Salvage fleet he led the pollution prevention phase of the salvage operation until the completion of the STS operation in Suez. The phrase “no pollution reported” was the measure of our effectiveness for the extended duration operation from a war zone to a safe STS location in Suez.

He was part of the team that created a lifesaving national safety policy with my industry peers in association with the UK Health and Safety Executive, simple process changes have been proven to save lives in the global Road Transport Industry. I have led and participated in several incident investigations with insurance investigation teams involving road traffic accidents where large goods vehicles were involved. I have delivered several major incident investigations for the marine & aerospace industry involving multiple stakeholders. He have also undertaken company investigations where injury claims have been involved. During my time in the Royal Navy, I was part of several fire and ship related incident investigations
