Richard JanssenPresident, International Salvage Union (ISU) at & Managing Director, SMIT Salvage
Richard Janssen is Managing Director of SMIT Salvage and has 20 years’ experience of the marine salvage, towage, offshore and energy sectors. He began his career in towage in Rotterdam before moving to Smit Tak in operational and contract management roles. Richard then headed the commercial team in the head office and was involved in major Smit Salvage projects like the Erika, Ievoli Sun, Kursk, Prestige and Tricolor. Richard then moved to SMIT’s terminals division as commercial manager responsible for Africa primarily working on LNG and FPSO marine support projects before leaving to work in contract and business development roles in the offshore oil and gas sector. Richard re-joined SMIT Salvage in 2009 as Commercial Manager responsible for the commercial department, including the representative offices in London and Piraeus, before being promoted to Commercial Director in 2014 and Managing Director in 2016.Richard studied business in Rotterdam and has undertaken a number of international commercial, contracting, subsea engineering and management courses.
He was a member of the ISU’s Salvage sub-Committee and has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2015.
Since 2017 he was elected as Vice President of the ISU (International Salvage Union) and in September 2019 he was elected President of the ISU.
