Profile

Robert Meijer started his career in Nigeria for Royal IHC after finishing his bachelors from both the university in Southern Denmark and Saxion Universities in the Netherlands. After managing a marine services company in the offshore industry as well in Nigeria he joined SMIT Salvage in 2014 in the commercial department. In this function he was commercially responsible for some major salvage casualties, such as the Modern Express off the coast of France, the New Katerina in the Suez Canal and the Maersk Honam in the Arabian Sea, the latter case was covered all the way from the LOF to the disposal of the debris after the fire.

From 2019 he moved on to lead the (global) projects department and business development for SMIT Salvage. This department deals with the removal of wrecks, such as the Northguider in the Arctic and other related projects, such as the cargo discharge and disposal of the Maersk Honam and offshore- and windfarm related (removal) projects. Recently he and his team were leading the successful set up of an additional emergency response center in Brazil for providing salvage services to a major oil and gas client.
