Sam Kendall-Marsden is the Chief Claims Officer for NorthStandard, one of the 12 clubs that comprise the International Group. Sam leads a large-scale claims operation across multiple global offices (in the US, Europe, Asia and Australasia), overseeing 250 colleagues including a senior claims leadership team of five, with an annual claims expenditure of over $775 million.
Sam is a dual-qualified solicitor (UK and Queensland), spent 10 years in private practice before joining the club, and has over 26 years’ experience of the insurance industry. He is recognised as having special expertise in major marine casualty management and has been responsible for managing several of the world’s most complex and demanding cases including the Costa Concordia, the most significant marine casualty to date with a P&I exposure of $1.5bn.
Sam represents the club on various International Group (IG) and other industry bodies, including acting as Chair of the IG’s Large Claims Committee and he is a member of the Fines, Salvage Exclusions and Salvage Preparedness & Contingency Planning working groups. Sam is also a member of the BIMCO subcommittee reviewing and revising its suite of wreck removal contracts, including Wreckstage 2024 published earlier this year.
