Jessica Bartlett is Vice President & Chief Counsel for Global Financial Crimes in the General Counsel’s Office at American Express. Jessica oversees a team of global lawyers who advise on the financial crimes laws for all lines of defense and key functions across developed and emerging markets where American Express operates and is accepted. Previously, Jessica was the Global Head for Financial Crime Legal at Barclays, based in New York, after being relocated from Hong Kong where she was the Director of Financial Crime Legal – APAC. Before moving in-house, Jessica practiced at Freshfields (NY and Hong Kong) and Shearman (NY). In 2020, Jessica joined the Board of Directors for the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and in 2021, assumed the chairmanship of that Board. In that role, she regularly represented and advised American businesses in the Hong Kong business community.
Prior to joining private practice, Jessica clerked for the Honorable Sidney H. Stein, District Judge for the Southern District of New York. Jessica graduated summa cum laude with a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois. She also holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Brandeis University, and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Art History and Political Science from Southern Methodist University.
