David PettBarrister at Temple Tax ChambersSpeaker
Profile
David is a tax barrister practising as a member of Temple Tax Chambers in London. He qualified in 1980 and, after 3 years with the tax team at Clifford-Chance, moved to Birmingham where he joined what is now Pinsent Masons, becoming a partner in 1985 and Head of Tax from 1999 to 2005, during which period that firm was understood to have the largest team of specialist tax lawyers in the UK. In 2009 he led his team out to form Pett, Franklin & Co., LLP focusing on all forms of employee share incentives and employee-owned companies. In 2017, David re-qualified as a barrister and, whilst still drafting and advising on all forms of employee share schemes and incentives, he once again advises on a broader range of direct tax issues. David is perhaps best known as author and joint-editor of “Employee Share Schemes” (2-vol loose-leaf, pub. Thomson Reuters) and as having devised, or contributed to, many of the arrangements which have become mainstream practice in this field. He is a regular speaker and lecturer on the topic and was the recipient of the 2017 individual ProShare Award for Services to Employee Share Ownership.
